Charles Bryant Hendrix

Well, so much for the due date +/- 2 days! Our little bundle of joy has arrived!!! And is there a story? Why, of course!

Let's preface the story by saying that Matt was at a tournament in Hilton Head. We talked to the doctors and everyone thought Matt playing this week would be completely fine. Mom took the week off work to come up to Greenville to help me out and be there in case anything were to happen. Glad she was here!

I woke up at 5:30 on Thursday morning and felt pains in my lower stomach. They weren't anything bad, and nothing was regular so I layed in bed for about an hour. At 6:30, I decided to get up and get mom and have her time my "pains". Like I said, they weren't anything bad and they were sporadic so I really didn't think anything about it. I called the nurse about 6:45am and she told me to call the doctor's office at 8 and the doctor will probably want to see me. My water ended up breaking at 7am, so Matt went ahead and got on the road.

We tidied up things around the house and got in the car for the hospital. By the time I got in the car, my contractions were 2 minutes apart and pretty painful. We got to the hospital and they checked me in and gave me a room. It did take me quite a while to get to the room because I had to stop at each contraction.

When I got to the room, the nurse checked and was surprised to tell me that I was already 8 cm dilated. I quickly went to 10cm and could deliver at any point. When asked if Matt would make it, both she and the doctor said it would be a close call and if we didn't get the epidural in, he would not make it. Luckily, we got the epidural in!

Matt arrived to the hospital (on fumes) at 10:50am and I started pushing at 11. Sweet Chase entered the world at 12:33pm, weighing in at 6lbs 11 ounces and 19 inches long. And what a blessing he has been!!

A Chase Update

Not sure if anyone really reads this blog, but thought I'd pass along information on Chase! As I look at the countdown, I only see 7 days left! I have to say it is very hard to believe that we are only 7 days away from meeting our sweet baby!

We went to the doctor last Friday for our weekly appointment. I was about 1/2cm dilated and Chase is settled way down, ready to come! Dr. Metherall estimated Chase to be about 7 pounds at that point and thinks he'll be about 7 lbs 15 oz at birth. We'll see how close he is! Hopefully not much bigger than that! :) The doctor also said that the way things look, the birth date is going to be due date (Feb 23rd) +/- 2 days. Matt is away at a golf tournament this week in Hilton Head so my mom is up here with me. Haven't felt any contractions or anything but as soon as I do (in a regular pattern), I will call Matt and have him come on home!! We don't want him to miss a thing! (Especially the fun mood I'll be in during delivery :) )

The doctor said that things are "favorable" for me to be induced if we were to go that route. I have to say there is something nice about knowing when the baby will come! So, if the appointment this Friday goes well, we will schedule the induction for next Tuesday or Wednesday.

We will keep you posted on the arrival of sweet Chase!!!

Church home

Matt and I are happy to say we have finally found a church home here in Greenville! For the past 6 years, we have been going to a church but never became active and never really enjoyed it all that much. We decided that we really needed to find a church home that we love before Chase comes. We want him to grow up with a good church family.

Today we joined John Knox Presbyterian Church. We have been going there for months now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The pastor is great and the congregation is so incredibly friendly and welcoming!

We look forward to the years to come at John Knox!

The Nursery!

Only 20 days left until our little bundle of joy comes into this world! So hard to believe the nine months is almost over! I have been blessed with such a great pregnancy and hope the delivery will be the same. We are still working every night to make sure we have everything together - last minute trips to Babies R Us, putting the carseat in the car, assembling the stroller, you name it, we're doing it!

While I thought I would have time to go back and get more "trinkets" for the nursery, I don't know if I'll have the time. So this probably is the finished product...

Couple's Shower

Matt and I have truly been blessed with some wonderful friends!! On January 23rd, seven of our closest couple friends threw us a couples shower in Greenville at the Rostin's house. We had such a good time and loved it all! Instead of giving cards, everyone was to bring a children's book and write a note in it. Needless to say, Chase's library is already amazing!

The food was delicious and there were so many people there! Thank you to all of you for coming!! We really appreciate it and cannot thank you enough!

The food table - notice the PRECIOUS cake (that also tasted delicious!)
